Twentieth century Eastern European and Russian compositions for violin and piano
MetadataShow full item record
This thesis focuses on twentieth century Eastern European compositions for violin and piano. Through a recording project and accompanying documents, I will introduce distinctive styles of Eastern European violin music within four works: Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Op. 94bis and Five Melodies Op. 35bis, Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne for violin and piano, and Bartók’s First Rhapsody. My CD recording will be a resource for the study of these works. The written document provides the historical context and comparison of famous violinists’ recording. In addition, passages requiring challenging violin technical issues are examined.
