    Abstract
This thesis examines the contribution of Hervé Guibert to the literary genre of the AIDS narrative through a thematic analysis of A l’ami qui ne m’a pas sauvé la vie, his first autobiographical work on AIDS. It is determined that this work is rather a piece of fiction after a close look at Guibert’s writing style and his novelistic treatment of HIV/AIDS. Information concerning the history of the disease and specific medical conditions and indications are also examined in order to illustrate the extent to which Guibert incorporated this knowledge in his work.
