António Lobo Antunes
Abstract
António Lobo Antunes is one of the most well know and most researched Portuguese authors of our age. Yet, little has been published about the unique position that space occupies in his works. This study examines the unique characteristics of his evocation of space in his narratives, and demonstrates the role that this element plays in the construction of a profoundly mnemonic narrative. Through a critical analysis of two of his novels, A ordem natural das coisas (1996) and Não é meia noite quem quer (2012), this study identifies the vast array of stylistic techniques and leitmotifs that António Lobo Antunes reverts to in the elaboration of the aforementioned relations. In this process, concepts like pluridimensionality, spatiotemporal transgression, and relational reciprocity are surveyed.
