dc.description.abstractIn our search for a modified photosensitive metal chelator we have designed a new platform for the photochemical release of metal ions. The tetradentate ligand, having a high binding affinity for metal ions, contains a photolabile ether linkage. Upon irradiation one of the bidentate side chains is cleaved off resulting in a dramatic reduction of the ligand to metal affinity. The cleavage occurs within 12 microseconds after the laser pulse permitting spacial and temporal control of the metal ion release.
