Water usage in Athens, Georgia as a result of the 2007 drought event and analysis of future water availability
MetadataShow full item record
During 2007-2009, an extreme drought event occurred in northern Georgia. An examination of the climatological factors and water usage patterns in the Athens, GA area indicates that rapidly increasing populations combined with water usage levels beyond water system limitations led to the severe water shortages. The only way to prevent water shortages in the future with existing infrastructure is to maintain withdrawal levels developed as a result of water restrictions created during the 2007-09 drought.
