    Abstract
This thesis examines the role of sketch drawing in the understanding of place. Place theory, the components that make up place, and typologies of sketch drawing were studied. Then, three case studies were examined and applied to the research to create a methodology for exploring place via sketch drawing. The methodology was then applied by the author to evaluate its relevance.
