This study investigates whether gender moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and leadership. The results suggest that the relationship between EI and effective leadership is stronger for female leaders than for male leaders. Task-oriented and people-oriented leadership behaviors were examined separately, and the results suggest that the relationship between EI and leadership may be moderated by gender regardless of the type of leadership behaviors examined. Theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.
