This thesis uses a quantitative research design to investigate patterns of media use, including print, television and radio, among the Latino community in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia. A random sample of 129 adult Latinos living in the county indicates that Spanish- and English-language media use among this community is in many ways similar to that of Latinos throughout the United States, especially concerning the importance of radio as the medium most often listened to for news about the Athens area. In Athens, Latinos report also greater use of print media over television and English over Spanish for local news information, although the use of Spanish-language print media is restricted by their limited availability. Survey respondents indicated that they would like to see more Spanish-language reporting of local news, immigration news, employment opportunities and cultural information of relevance to the Latino community.
