For several decades before his death in 1986, Albert Dobbs Sams was dedicated to thepreservation of Athens, GeorgiaÕs historic properties. A driving force behind several housemuseum restorations, Albert Sams was integral in furnishing them with donations of periodantiques. Now, twenty years later, one of the historic sites to which he donated, the Church-Waddel-Brumby House, circa 1820, is being reinterpreted with a more focused period ofsignificance. For this reason, the committee charged with restoration determined manyfurnishings donated by Albert Sams are no longer appropriate and must be deaccessioned. Thisthesis considers the current events surrounding the Church-Waddel-Brumby House and attemptsto provide practical solutions for those responsible for the collection by reviewing National ParkService guidelines concerning collections management and deaccession standards.
