    Abstract
In this essay we will analyze two important ideological traditions that expressed and defined to a great extent, the contours of a continent, a history, a culture and an identity; namely, that of Latin America. We will do it through the critical reading and contrast of two paradigmatic texts: The Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano (1971) and Twisted Roots: Latin America's Living Past by Alberto Montaner (2001). Previously, in Chapter 2, we will sketch out a rough idea of the dynamic semantics of the process and the dialectic struggle for definition, the conquest and the administration of the meanings of the symbols, of the texts, and of their eventual contexts as well as for the construction of a historical narration from different “reading models” (SFT-Semantic Fields Theory). For that reason, we will proceed narrowing down a circle, from the general to the particular in the texts to be analyzed, out of technical considerations and other more concrete and specific ones.
