dc.description.abstractThis study reviewed the leadership decisions made by the author as he served as principal of The High School. The High School was a suburban high located in metropolitan Atlanta. The author was recruited to lead the high school after three consecutive years of declining GHSGT scores. The study details the school improvement plan and strategies the author implemented during the 2001-2004 school years. The geometric NPR means on the English and Math sections of the PLAN and the mean scale scores on the English, Math, Social Studies, and Science sections of the GHSGT were reviewed and compared to the means from the 1998-2001 school years. Percentage of students passing the GHSGT on the first attempt was also reviewed and compared to 1998-2001 school years. The achievement gap between white and African American students was compared to the state average in Georgia over the 2001-2004 school years. The study found increases in student achievement for African American students on both sections of the PLAN and all sections of the GHSGT. The study also found little increase for white students. The author details explanations for the score trends found.
